Method 1: winver (fastest)
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
winverand press Enter. - The “About Windows” window shows the Windows name, the version (for example 24H2) and the OS build.
Method 2: Settings (edition and 32/64-bit)
Open Settings › System › About. Under Device specifications, System type shows 64-bit or 32-bit. Under Windows specifications, you see the Edition (Home, Pro, Enterprise…), Version and OS build.

Windows 11 or Windows 10? Check the build number
| Build number | Windows |
|---|---|
| 22000 and higher | Windows 11 (for example 22631 = 23H2, 26100 = 24H2) |
| 19041 to 19045 | Windows 10 (19045 = 22H2, the final version) |
Good to know: some tools and the registry still report “Windows 10” as the product name on Windows 11 PCs. The build number in winver is the reliable way to tell them apart.
Check activation at the same time
Open Settings › System › Activation to see whether Windows is activated and which edition is installed. If you are buying a key, make sure it matches this edition, or choose a Pro key to upgrade from Home. Having trouble? See how to troubleshoot Windows activation errors.
